Apple wood wall clock – unique craftsmanship and a natural wooden gift

From an unusually shaped apple wood blank to a finished, unique wall clock. This project shows how natural wood is carefully worked, sanded and transformed into a one-of-a-kind interior object. These wooden wall clocks are not mass-produced — every piece is unique craftsmanship and a special natural wooden gift.

How a unique apple wood wall clock was made
The making of this wooden wall clock began by selecting a distinctive apple wood blank. From the start, the wood stood out for its expressive natural shape, uneven edges, branch points, cracks and characteristic grain.

These features were deliberately preserved because our goal was not to make the wood perfectly symmetrical. On the contrary, we wanted to create a unique wooden clock that clearly showed the genuine character of the material.

Preparing the wood blank

The first stage was levelling and carefully working the surface. The natural apple wood required irregularities to be removed while preserving its original shape.

Routing, sanding and manual surface work were used during the process. Particular attention was paid to the natural cracks and wood edges.

This is one of the most important stages in making wall clocks of this kind because overly aggressive treatment could destroy precisely the details that make every piece unique.

Revealing the natural wood pattern

Apple wood is distinctive for its expressive grain, variations in colour and darker inclusions. As sanding progressed, more and more of the natural pattern was revealed.

Natural cracks, variations in form and other characteristics were retained as evidence that this is a genuine solid-wood product rather than an industrial imitation.

As a result, every clock of this kind exists as a single unique piece.

Creating the clock face

Once the wood surface was ready, the clock face was created. It was integrated into the wood itself rather than made as a separate applied component.

The clock face is approximately 20 cm in diameter, while the overall finished wooden wall clock measures approximately 27 × 102 cm.

The black clock-face details and hands contrast with the light apple wood while allowing the wood itself to remain the main design feature.

From a piece of wood to an interior accent

After several stages of work, the original apple wood blank became a functional interior object.

A large wooden wall clock like this can become a central feature in a living room, country home, sauna, study or another room where natural materials fit the interior.

It is not only an object for telling the time. It is part of the wood’s history, preserved and transformed into a new form.

Wooden wall clocks as unique gifts

Handcrafted wooden wall clocks are also a special choice for people looking for more than an ordinary shop-bought gift.

A clock like this may be suitable as:
- a unique wooden gift for an anniversary, wedding or birthday;
- a representative gift for a company or manager;
- a special housewarming gift;
- an original interior item for someone who appreciates natural wood and craftsmanship;
- a one-off piece of Latvian craftsmanship.

Making two completely identical clocks of this kind is practically impossible because the next piece of wood will have another form, cracks, branches and grain.

VVWOOD – wood with its character preserved

In VVWOOD projects, we try to work with what nature has already created. An unusual shape, branch or crack is not always a defect to us — often it becomes the most important design detail in the finished item.

This apple wood wall clock is a good example of how untreated wood can become a functional and unique interior object.

Every tree is different. That is why every VVWOOD handcrafted piece is different as well.
