Making a Wooden Chess Set – Exclusive Chess Board with Piece Storage Drawer
An exclusive wooden chess set with a decorative chessboard, wooden pieces and a built-in storage drawer. This handcrafted VVWOOD chess set combines the beauty of natural wood, carefully made ornaments and considered functionality. The chessboard is made from contrasting wood squares, while the decorative border is finished with elegant ornaments. Beneath the playing surface is a pull-out drawer with separate compartments for storing the light and dark chess pieces. A wooden chess set is not only a classic board game, but also a unique interior piece and an original gift. An excellent choice for chess enthusiasts, as a gift for a man, father or manager, for an anniversary or another special occasion.
Wooden chess set – an exclusive board game and unique craftsmanship
Wooden chess is one of the most classic board games, combining strategy, thought and visual enjoyment. The wooden chess set with a piece-storage drawer made in the VVWOOD workshop is a special craft project in which a practical board game becomes a decorative design object.
This chess set stands out for its natural wood texture, carefully made playing surface, decorative ornaments and functional construction.
Wooden chessboard with decorative ornaments
At the centre of the set is a carefully made wooden chessboard with the traditional 64-square layout.
The contrast between light and dark wooden squares defines the playing surface and gives it a classic, elegant appearance.
The chessboard is surrounded by a wide decorative wooden border with ornamental engraving and distinctly finished corners.
The natural grain and colour variations make this chess set especially appealing to people who appreciate original wooden products.
Wooden chess set with a piece-storage drawer
One of the distinctive details of this project is the built-in drawer for storing the chess pieces.
A pull-out drawer beneath the playing surface has two separate compartments, allowing the light and dark chess pieces to be stored conveniently.
The drawer interior is finished with a blue lining, creating an elegant visual contrast with the natural wood.
This solution combines aesthetics with practicality – after a game, all pieces can be placed in the drawer so the set remains tidy.
Wooden chess pieces – classic and elegant design
The set uses traditionally designed wooden chess pieces in two contrasting tones.
Their forms clearly distinguish the king, queen, rooks, bishops, knights and pawns.
The wooden pieces harmoniously complement the design of the board and its decorative border.
Exclusive wooden gifts for chess enthusiasts
If you are looking for a unique gift for a man, an original anniversary present or a special gift for a chess player, a handcrafted wooden chess set is an excellent choice.
Such a chess set can be suitable as:
A gift for a woman or man who enjoys chess
A gift for a father or grandfather
A gift for a manager or business partner
A gift for a friend or colleague
A birthday or anniversary gift
A Christmas gift
A wedding-anniversary gift
A prize for a chess tournament winner
A gift for someone who appreciates craftsmanship and natural materials
Unlike mass-produced plastic board games, a wooden chess set with decorative finishing can become a long-lasting and visually valuable gift.
Wooden chess as a home or study interior element
A decorative wooden chess set can complement a living room, library, study or relaxation-room interior.
Thanks to the natural grain, classic forms and ornaments, the chessboard remains visually attractive even when it is not being used for play.
It works particularly well in classic, rustic and natural-material interiors.
Custom-made wooden chess sets
At the VVWOOD workshop, we place particular emphasis on individual wooden products and non-standard projects.
Depending on technical possibilities, a custom wooden chess set can be discussed with dimensions, decorative finishing and individual design elements adapted to the project.
Personalised engraving can also be discussed, such as a name, initials, an important date or a special inscription.
Such personalised wooden chess sets can become especially meaningful gifts.
Craftsmanship and the uniqueness of natural wood
Natural wood has an individual grain pattern, tonal transitions and textural characteristics.
Handcrafted products may have slight variations in surface, form and colour, giving each set an individual character.
The chess set shown in the photographs is an example of a project completed by VVWOOD.
